Abstract
DESIGN:Prospective interventional, comparative study.PURPOSE:Compare CAG and conjunctival rotational sliding flap(CSF) techniques in primary pterygium. METHOD:131 patients had surgery using CAG and CSF technique, outcomes and complications were assessed on the first post-operative day, the first and fourth week, two and three months. RESULT:CSF showed statistically significant improvement in both visual acuity and astigmatism during followups, with a shorter surgical time and a lower recurrence(7.57%), with fewer early post-operative complications like sub-conjunctival haemorrhage(12%), graft oedema(4.5%). CAG showed statistically significant improvements in both visual acuity and astigmatism as well, but takes longer to operate, higher recurrence(20%), more graft oedema(18.5%) and sub-conjunctival haemorrhage(96.9%). CONCLUSION:Both surgery approaches are safe, with CSF having a lower rate of recurrence and a shorter operative duration than CAG and thus being a viable alternative.
