Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Observational study
PURPOSE: To compare central macular thickness (CMT) before and after cataract surgery between non-diabetics and diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy using Spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT).
METHODS: 25 patients were included into diabetics and non diabetics groups who underwent small incision cataract surgery (SICS)respectively. CMT was measured after 1 month postoperatively by using SDOCT. Data was analysed using paired ‘t’ and unpaired ‘t’ test.
RESULTS: Statistically significant difference in mean CMT was observed in and between the groups.
CONCLUSION: Significant increase in central macular thickness seen after SICS in both groups.
