Abstract
This is a cross sectional observational study done to determine the level of awareness in diabetic patients regarding diabetic retinopathy screening, follow up and barrier of eye screening in adults with type 2 diabetes. It consists of a predesigned questionnaire in which information about demographic details, Diabetic duration and control, awareness of screening, follow up and their compliance was collected and analyzed for about 100 patients. More than half of the patients surveyed had diabetic duration of greater than 5 years.36 % were only aware that diabetes can affect their eyes. Only 41 persons have checked their eyes for diabetic retinopathy. In that only 34%(14 persons) had their eye examination after physicians advice. Lack of knowledge was the major factor for the patients who had not checked their eyes.This concludes that Diabetic Retinopathy Awareness among the participants regarding eye examination, follow up was only suboptimal.
