Abstract
Objective: to study refractive outcome amongst penetrating and globe rupture sub groups of open globe injuries.
Method: We enrolled all open globe undergone surgeries during period from 2008 to 2021.Data collected prospectively in online format, patient operated according to protocols and final visual outcome considered 6 weeks post last surgery. We compared vision, Spherical, cylindrical refractive power amongst subgroups. Data analysed using SPSS 22 using cross tabulation and Fisher extract tests.
Results: Our cohort included 214 eyes 64.5%-m, 35.5% f with mean age 12. Mean astigmatism for penetrating and globe rupture group 1.31 and 1.67 D. We found significant difference pre post vision, spherical and cylindrical refractive error, object of injury and age group.(p=0.018, 0.001, 0.006, 0.050, 0.000) We could not find difference in OTS and Axis amongst these groups.
Conclusion: We found outcome is better and astigmatism is less in penetrating subcategory of open globe injury.
