Abstract
Aim:The objective was to explore the awareness of DES among diabetics attending a tertiary care hospital.
Material and methods:62 diabetics aged ≥ 40 years were selected in 3 months from the diabetic clinic. Focus was to determine whether they knew that they were at high risk of developing DES. Participants were asked open and closed-ended questions to explore their attitude& practices in relation to symptoms such as burning, stinging& discomfort.
Results: None of the 62 diabetic knew that they were at higher risk of developing DES. They did not know about signs, symptoms & complications of dry eyes.34 participants had symptoms of DES. Among these,13 have been washing eyes with cold water, 6 had no remedy& 3 were using Surma. None had ever consulted an eye doctor.
