Abstract
Purpose: To describe the clinical profile and factors predictive of recurrence in IIH. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed records of patients with recurrent IIH seen from January 1st, 2016 to 31st July 2022. Patient demographics, clinical features, examination findings, visual function and treatment given. Results: 41 patients (mean age: 33.7 ± 9.5 years) with recurrent were identified. 88% were women. Mean body mass index (BMI) of patients was 28.6kg/m2 and 39% patients were overweight/obese. Most common symptom was headache. 68% of patient had only one recurrence. Thyroid disorder (17%) and anemia (26%) were noted. Transverse sinus and sigmoid sinus hypoplasia was noted in 24% of the patients. Most patients did well on medical therapy alone and CSF diversion procedure was needed in only 4 patients.82% of the eyes had visual acuity of 20/20 at the final follow up. Conclusion: Recurrence in IIH is uncommon and co-existing anemia, hypoplastic sinus may be predisposing factors.
