Abstract
Study Design: Involving 18 young patients who presented to GIMSR between September 2022 and May 2023.
Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the causes of papilledema at the young age group following COVID-19 infection or vaccination.
Methods: Ocular examination, visual field testing, and brain imaging, were done .
Results: Of the 18 patients, 12:6 F:M with a mean age of 22.5 years. 5 patients with oral contraceptives, 11 patients with of COVID-19 infection or vaccination. Fundus examination bilateral papilledema, leading to the diagnoses of IIH in 11 patients, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis in 4 patients, and meningitis in 3 patients. On Treatment regression 4-6 weeks.
Conclusion: The upsurge of IIH may be attributed to the increased incidence of obesity, which is relevant in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 infection has been associated with various coagulation disorders, including CSVT. Further studies of etiopathogenesis in that age group is to be considered.
