Abstract
Diabetic macular edema is a common microvascular complication in patients with diabetes and eventually leading to blindness. Study design: a cross sectional study with same title was conducted, during the period of Feb 2022 to march 2023.
Purpose: 1. To study the correlation of HbA1c level with diabetic macular edema
2. Qualitative and quantitative assessment of macular edema using OCT and to correlate the foveal thickness with the HbA1c level.
Methods: a total of 140 patients were taken and divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of macular edema. Then it consists of detailed history, systemic and occular examination and Lab investigation. Result: 1. P value is 0.0602 between HbA1c and foveal thickness, not quite significant 2. P value is 0.0047 between HbA1c and CSME, very significant. Conclusion: higher mean HbA1c levels are very significantly associated with development of macular edema
