Abstract

A teenage boy presented with unilateral diminution of vision. He had sustained trauma to his left eye while playing with a wooden arrow several months ago. At the time of injury, the wooden stick had been mechanically pulled out by the relatives and no further intervention was undertaken at the time. subsequently the child developed gradual progressive painless deterioration in his vision with no other complaints and presented to our centre. Examination revealed right eye to be normal with the left eye to have a visual acuity of finger counting close to face and a well defined, circumscribed grayish opacification within the corneal stroma of his left eye. AS OCT confirmed the lesion as intra-stromal. AS OCT demonstrated an intra-stromal inverse hypoyon-like appearance. Exploration under GA revealed a viscous fluid which was aspirated. Vision was restored. Staphylococcus epidermidis was reported on microbiology work up. Video illustrates surgical technique in management.
