Abstract

 A 19-year-old female who has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome and both eye keratoconus in the past brought on by her parents, with complaints of not being able to see with her left eye since one day. She was uncooperative with the visual acuity assessment. Ocular examination showed left eye central ectasia with corneal edema suggestive of acute corneal hydrops. Initially, medical management was tried with topical medications (steroids and antiglacuoma along with antibiotics). She then underwent C3F8 descemetopexy for increased corneal edema. After one week, diffuse limbal-to-limbal ectasia and corneal edema were noted. She was planned for compression sutures and air descemtopexy. Eight radial, full-thickness compression sutures were taken in the mid periphery. Corneal edema resolved completely after seven weeks. Thus, we conclude that compression sutures combined with air descemetopexy are effective therapies to accelerate the resolution of corneal edema in acute corneal hydrops.
