Abstract
METHODOLOGY:
• All the patients in the study were examined by one individual (the investigator) in order
to minimize the bias. An informed consent was obtained from all the parents.
• A detailed medical history was obtained.visual acuity recording (with cycloplegic),slit-lamp examination
• Uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity using Snellen’s visual acuity chart for
distant vision (with cycloplegic)
RESULTS:
Myopia was present in 63.7% patients.Hypermetropia was present in 33.2% patients.Astigmatism
was present in 55.4% patients.
Squint was present in 4.1% patients.Amblyopia was present in 1.7% patients.
Majority of the children with refractive errors belonged to the age group of 11 to 13 years
[35.2%] followed by 8 to 10 years [27.7%], 5 to 7 years [22.6%] and 14 to 15 years [14.6%].
Girls were found to be having more refractive errors than boys with around 20% more than
boys.Boys were 41.3% and girls were 58.7%.
Most of the cases in study group are found to be Bilateral.
