Abstract
Design:cross sectional study. Purpose: To evaluate ocular manifestations in Sickle cell disease. If not identified and treated in time, these issues might cause considerable visual impairment and blindness. Aim: to determine ophthalmic manifestations in sickle cell anaemia patients attending a tertiary care centre. Methods: patients with sickle cell anemia examined for ocular manifestations, demographic data was noted and they were subjected to vision testing, slit lamp, fundus examination, OCT examination were performed. Results: Total 31 cases were studied, ranging from 5 to 40yrs(mean age 21years) .Conjunctival sign seen in 63.3%, Peripheral retinal vascular involvement in 48.3% .Salmon patches in 6.45%, iridescent spots in 3.22%,Black sunburst in 9.6%, Peripheral retinal vascular occlusion in 48.3%,Av anastomosis in 6.45% were seen.Conclusions: Sickle cell disease is linked to a number of ocular manifestations if untreated that can affect quality of life and vision
