Abstract

Congenital corneal staphyloma is rare corneal disorder characterized by ectatic corneal protrusion in-between lids.A 6day old fullterm,female born by vaginal-birth brought by parents for left eye globe/eyeball protrusion since birth.No history of intrauterine or post-delivery infection.General examination showed polydactyl of right foot.Left eye examination,lids were normal.Eyeball showed axial-proptosis with ovoid mass protruding from orbital cavity,soft to firm,nontender with reddish-black discoloration.Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)orbit showed left eye anteroposterior length of 23mm,enlarged anterior segment with focal corneal thinning & no intraocular calcification. Discussion:Congenital corneal staphyloma is caused due to failure of migration of mesenchymal cells which normally form corneal epithelium.Being seen sporadically,its often misdiagnosed as keratectasia,dermoid or intraocular tumour.
